The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

It would be amiss to write about London in June without mention of the highly anticipated Platinum Jubilee weekend. Between 2nd - 5th June is a range of festivities and pageants to commemorate the 70-year reign of The Queen thus far. For a guide on the celebrations taking place over this period, see our post ‘Jubilee events in London’.

The Open Garden Squares Weekend

The 11th - 12th June sees the Open Garden Squares Weekend event as the public are given open access to the private gardens of London’s residents for one weekend only. With past years offering access to the gardens of 10 Downing Street and the intimate 49 Bankside located just next to Shakespeare’s Globe, visitors can expect entrance to not only pockets of serenity that lay hidden amongst the bustle of London’s streets, but to the spaces that have played history’s witness also. Tickets for the event are still available, and can be purchased from £20 here.

Royal Ascot

For guests seeking a day away from the buzz of London’s streets whilst still seeking a taste of quintessential British tradition is the revered Royal Ascot, which runs from 14th - 18th June. Guests can expect a day of glamour, decadence, and a vibrant atmosphere as people travel country wide to attend. Tickets are still available, and can be purchased here.

Wimbledon Championships

Towards the end of June the famous and world-renowned Wimbledon Championships commence. It is sure to be an exceptional event and a must-see for sports and tennis fans alike. Alongside witnessing the tennis world’s best battle it out on the court, you can expect a day of exemplary British classics such as Pimm’s or strawberries and cream whilst revelling in the ecstasy that the competition brings.

London Festival of Architecture

Finally, running across the entirety of June is the London Festival of Architecture offering a variety of events, workshops, and discussion panels that both delve into and celebrate the architectural landscape of London. Included in the 30 day festival are family events such as 'Tomorrow's cities with Maya Kincaid', discussions on building green spaces and collaborative communities, and an array of exhibitions. Sure to offer a mix of intrigue, insight, and curiosity provoking content, the festival is a must attend for anyone interested in architecture, design, and the city.
